I've been liking these prints from tas-ka. They would make great pillows or bags. I like the simple geometric city drawings that from far away they look different. Check out their site for other interesting home ideas and wares.
My good friend Clara Gold has just got her website up and I love her layout. She works various styling jobs from editorials and on set styling. We are still working out a tentative "style blog" (ahem!) so hopefully between our schedules we will get it off the ground! Check out her site and if you need to book her for your styling needs. Looks amazing Clara!
So I've been obsessing about these frames for over a year and I can finally wear them. Adam got them for me this past birthday and I love them! This is me at Balzacs in Liberty Village sporting my new bird eternity scarf.
It's that time of season again. If you are in the Toronto area and are ready to do some early holiday shopping, check out my sister's booth and the show of many one of a kind gifts. I will be working her booth here and there during the show so come by and say hi. Show days are November 26 - December 6 or go to the One of A Kind Show site.
Get your early holiday shopping on at Poppytalk Handmade and this month's Holiday Market. Browse through various artists and their work and find unique one of a kind gifts including my market.
Although this little jacket flew off the shelf. Stella has agreed to design the Spring Summer Gap Kids collection in 2010. Let's hope I can snag cute summer outfits.
I was debating to even post this but it has already been out this week anyways. I found it weird that a few posts ago I had my top picks of asian models. I didn't add Daul Kim to the list who we now know has passed away this week from committing suicide in Paris. There were alleged rumours or here say that she was under a lot of pressure from the fashion industry and personal reasons of course. Although things like this we hear about always become a blip or sound byte in our constant feed of information. It was important to for me to post this because it was into relation in my other Weekend Style post and it was eerie that I didn't add her to my list because her work has been much prevalent and important as the other girls. In remembrance of, Daul Kim.
During the holidays I am pretty hardcore with presents and wrapping paper. I love nothing more than great packaging and paper. This Chocolate company in Singapore makes me want to buy one of everything. I love the simplicity and design of their shop and products. When I make my way to Singapore I will hopefully get to visit the Chocolate Research Factory.
I will hopefully be adding these four books to my Japanese book collection. Don't ask me what they're about. Well, some are clothing pattern ones and the other is a bag book. I still have to start some projects with my other book. Will keep you updated when I get them.
Loving this laser cut ring from Stolen Thunder. They make cute laser cut accessories. I am not a big fan of jewelry but these wood laser cut items are really fun.
I am so excited about my new eternity scarf. I used my vintage bird fabric from this past summer to create a new scarf which is a bit slimmer and longer. This scarf can do up to three loops which gives endless ways to wear this scarf. There is no print on this version because I thought the fabric was beautiful on it's own. I like this version because it's a bit dressy yet casual. My favourite way to wear the scarf is doubled, having it a bit longer, paired with a cute jacket and jeans. I will post more shots of it once I get better from this cold. It's made in a limited run so get while you can!
My wood owl pins were a hit in Montreal and I sold out of them. I finally got more reclaimed wood remnants from my sister. I have a huge bag full of round and odd shaped ones. I will for sure make some new pins with new wood remnants.
It was only a month ago or so I was in Montreal. I already miss it! Maybe it was the shopping, or the amazing cafe's at every corner. There's just something in the air there. Anyhow, I miss you lots and I hope we get to meet again. This was one of my favourite places. Anton & James on Peel, think Dean & Deluca or Pret a Mangerin Paris and London. Love their coffee!
I thought this was really great to see. Laying sick in bed I was reading the new issue of Teen Vogue and I stumbled upon the girl of the moment section. Please click for accompanying piece. It was none other than Tao Okamoto who I mentioned in my earlier post. It put a smile on my face knowing that mainstream fashion media like Teen Vogue will hopefully continue to have more exposure on models of colour. The fashion industry is in no way perfect but it's a start. The spread was small but apparent in the actual magazine. Hopefully we will continue to see Tao in many ads, editorials and covers soon!
Will Anna Wintour give in already and just put Lady Ga Ga on the cover of Vogue. It seems as though there's no stopping the various celebrities that have graced the cover in the past year. In order to sell magazines I guess by slapping any celebrity will sell Vogue magazines. I think Lady Ga Ga for the moment has been somewhat influential in Fashion this past year and has landed other covers and editorials so I'm not sure why Anna is still waiting. For now, you can see the Lady in the Arts Issue of Vogue with Cate Blanchett (yawn) on the cover.
I've been exploring geometric shapes and drawings lately and I've discovered polygons or polygonal shapes. I like how these shapes can be translated into functional items like this backpack by Davidi Gilad.
I know it's early to mention this but the holidays are literally around the corner. I bought some cute wrapping paper the other day at Costco. I know, I am kind of obsessed with Costco. Of all places I found cute wrapping paper there. Anyhow, if life was simple I would get some Eley Kishimoto graphic wallpaper to wrap presents. Although I am sure I could find a wall to wallpaper though.
My sister just bought a cool letterpress machine this past weekend. She will be holding classes and workshops in the coming weeks. Get your printing on and check out her upcoming classes at her shop. I will hopefully get to try it out and make some cards and such in the future. Check the website or visit the shop to check on available classes. They are filling up quick so check it out soon.
It is no secret that I follow models. I have my favourite picks and they're all my favourite in their own right. I like the upcoming "it" girls that dominate the runway and editorial pages each season. What makes an "it" girl? There are many ways to make an "it" girl model. They can simply be designers favourite some seasons or girls that stand out on their own. It is no secret that diversity on the runways are slim to none when casting for major shows each season. Some designers will make it apparent to cast models of different ethnic backgrounds and some will have a few here and there. These girls that I picked have nabbed many shows and editorial spots and some have even inspired designers to do a show or a collection based on them like Tao Okamoto's haircut did for Phillip Lim. Here are my picks, Tao Okamoto, Du Juan, Hye Park and Hyoni Kang. Hopefully there will be more diverse representation in the future and things will change slowly in the fashion industry. Girls like Tao could open more doors for asian models in mainstream fashion. It's a slow step towards a more diverse industry.
After dodging moms at Gap Kids the other night trying to snag clothes for my nephew and niece I realized that Stella's work reminded me of one my favourite Japanese designers Tsumori Chisato. I've been meaning to get her book Kawaii that has her illustrations. I didn't get the pieces I wanted at Gap Kids but I will be checking their new stock tomorrow.
Our baby shower was amazing last night and I hoped everyone had fun and ate lots of food. It was an amazing turn out and everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves. My nephew Lliam hung with us the whole day yesterday setting up and running around and he got to eat lots of cupcakes while I was making them. It was good for him to finally get use to our dogs. Having kids on the brain got me excited for the Stella McCartney for Gap Kids. I will for sure be getting my niece and nephew something from the collection. Sgt Pepper jacket perhaps? The t-shirt dress with leggings is also a possibility. Although there won't be any kind of H&M madness tomorrow morning at 10AM I'll hopefully get to snag something for the kids.
