yay or nay?

I almost fell asleep looking at the Alexander Wang for Linda Farrow glasses. There weren't many styles but I feel like if you slap your name on top of another name it's suppose make the product worth more, not in this case. I'm going to have to pass on this one Mr. Wang. Maybe in years time you can make real eyewear and have it cohesive with your current collections. I'm going to say, nay.

weekend style issue #11.

* stella mccartney

* preen

* chloe

* celine

This is more of my Pre-Fall picks in this Weekend Style post. There has been lots mixing and layering for Pre-Fall and it continues with these four picks. First up is Stella McCartney, I'm a big fan of her suits and I like the fact that her suits are feminine and can be dressed up without being to over done. I love grey and Stella can do grey without looking too casual. Preen is also a favourite and their asymmetrical cuts can be a bit out there it still gives it visual appeal with their dresses and tops. I'm not a fan of cut outs but Preen seem to blend it well within their pieces. Chloe is doing these rounded shoulder jackets which I love these shapes. Proenza Schouler is also using this shapes with their jackets. Chloe does this masculine/feminine thing also in their collection and there are plenty of cute jackets and high waisted skirts to come. Celine is doing a lot of this colour blocking with solid colours, mixing and matching with leggings and tops. I hope this trend follows in the coming months because Balenciaga has been doing it also!

heart.

I am hopefully going to pick up my chocolate making supplies soon and I am anticipating all the ingredients to choose from. It's kind of like going fabric shopping for me but in chocolate form. I will put up some of my samples and maybe you will swing by The Workroom to pick up some chocolates on February 7th. See you there. The image above is just an excuse to use a Keith Haring picture and it is kinda in the Valentines Day spirit.

mast brothers chocolate.

I've been gearing up for my chocolate making and I've been obsessed with chocolate packaging. Mast Brothers Chocolate in Brooklyn, NY are a full on chocolate factory making onsite chocolate and selling them in their storefront. I can appreciate the work and detail that goes into making chocolate just like any other craft. I've been busy sorting out details for my chocolates and I hope they turn out delicious and look cute for you guys. Here are some of their packaging from Mast Brothers Chocolate.

26.1.10

it bag.

I can't wait for Spring to come and I can't wait to get my hands on this Proenza Schouler bag. I love love this bag, and their Pre-Fall Collection was amazing. I am an official Proenza Schouler fan now!

more letterpress.

Here are some cards I made during my letterpress making day. I will be making more for the show so look out for some card packs to send out to friends and lovers.

i heart you.

As I mentioned earlier I will be participating in the Love & Rummage Sale and I can't wait to start on my chocolates and letterpress gift sets. Hopefully I will see you at the show and maybe you can pick something handmade for your special someone. See you then.

25.1.10

julie & julia.

I finally saw Julie & Julia a couple of days ago and I thought it was such a cute movie. Merryl did win a Golden Globe for her role as Julia Childs. I got to have an amazing this Saturday at my friend Vern's house as she prepared a French themed dinner. Vern made the most delicious pate, ironically the recipe was from the Julia Childs french cook book. I also had frites with garlic aioli and braised beef cheeks stewed with veggies. Yummy all the way, thanks again Vern for an amazing dinner.

This is was a last minute event that I had the chance to join. I will be vending at The Workroom for their annual Love & Rummage Sale hosted by Karyn of The Workroom and Becky from City of Craft. I will be doing a limited collection of chocolate sweets for all you sweet tooth folks. As some of you my know I have been baking up a storm lately and would love to share my handmade chocolate just in time for Valentines day. In addition to the sweets I will be selling some of my letterpress products that I have been printing away. I hope you can make it and I will update you more towards the show.

weekend style #11.

I love playing where in the world is Jessica Stam. One of those all around it model girls who seem to pop up once in awhile. The last time I saw Jessica she was doing runway for Karl for his resort collection for Chanel. It's good to see Stam is around doing editorials. Love her in this shoot for Numero Magazine.

20.1.10

geometric paradise.

I am a sucker for nice hotels and hotel design. There's nothing more inspiring than traveling somewhere and staying at a place that's just as inspiring. I feel that the two go in hand. Hopefully I will get to do some more traveling this year. Here are some pictures of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Barcelona. I love the lines, colours and geometric shapes.

19.1.10

shop local toronto.

Panda Cub Cafe has added me to the list of local items to shop for. Check out her write up and don't forget to visit linesbydavis to purchase the elk pillow.

18.1.10

grey out again.

I'm looking forward to getting these for Spring. Grey anything makes me weak. I can't help it. I've been trying to cut down on my sneaker consumption but I think these are an exception.

letterpress workshop.

This past Saturday I got to participate in my sister's letterpress workshop and it was so much fun. Once you get the handle on getting your plate done the printing of the paper is so neat to see and do. I recommend anyone to try or take a letterpress workshop to make your own paper wares. I will take some photos later of my finished projects so you will have to wait and take a peek back. Here are some pictures of the letterpress in action and some of my plates. I did one for a Valentine's card saying "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" one of my favourite Smith's song.

weekend style issue #10.

This is a very special Weekend Style, today is Kate Moss' birthday. Yes, as a kid growing up in the 90's I discovered Kate Moss back when she was just a British, 5'7, waif girl who was discovered at JFK airport and swept away into a fashion whirlwind of a career . Back when Kate started out she was the 90's answer to the grunge look of that decade. Before the drama, drugs, Top Shop to rising from the ashes literally in the Fall/Winter 06 Alexander McQueen show she has always been relevant in fashion. Doing bad or good she always managed to pick herself back up. It seems that still working in the fashion industry Kate had become a brand on her own. Not bad for a short girl who we'd thought never would make it in the industry. Happy Birthday Kate!

no day but today.

So I was surprised by Adam and we went to see Rent last night with the original Broadway actors Adam Pascal & Anthony Rapp. They play Roger and Mark the key characters in Rent. It would've been nice to see Daphne Rubin-Vega revise her role as Mimi. It seems like Daphne hasn't been around the Rent cast since she couldn't do the film version of the play. It was good to see Adam and Anthony on stage and the play still resinates with me and fellow "Rent-heads". I first saw it years ago with my cousin Bea and I think she's seen it many times after that. It felt like 1996 when it opened on January 25th 14 years ago. Go see it now, it runs until the 24th at the Canon Theatre! No day but today.....

sew something today.

I haven't had a Keith Haring post in awhile but I thought I'd share my super find. I had this since last Spring and I had just put it up. It is a vintage Keith Haring chalk board that I found and had to barter for this and didn't get until months later I had offered to buy it. Just my luck the owner of this find could've cared less for it and gave it up for me. I try to follow my daily mantra, "sew something today" as I sew away in my studio.

14.1.10

pre-fall 2010.

balenciaga.

proenza schouler.

lanvin.

alexander wang.

Fashion weeks are coming up soon and it's already Pre-Fall 2010 collections oh my. Here are my pre-fall picks. I know this would be a week-end style post but I've been needing my fashion fix! All I can say that there will but lots of layering and black in Fall 2010. Proenza does it best when it comes to prep. Loving the shape on the varsity jacket and the plaids, prints and ruffles. Feminine prep with an edge. Lanvin is surprising me with all the separates that were shown and a lot of head scarfs also which we will all see soon. There are also lots of capes and hoods which I love. Balenciaga gets more surprising each season. The Balenciaga silhouette is still there with a twist of colour and shapes. I'm glad to see there is still some of that colour we saw in the Spring collection. The prints look almost liquid dipped. You'll be seeing a lot more colour leggings! The gloves are crazy are probably my favourite piece in the collection. They remind me of welding work gloves but more exaggerated. Alexander Wang continues his collection on a black, white and nude palette. I am looking forward to see his collaboration with Linda Farrow sunglasses cause I love a good pair of shades!

11.1.10

les mini.

It was a very sweet week-end as I got to eat some delicious cakes from Nadege called Les Mini, that Adrienne brought over Friday for girls night. They were all eaten up very quickly! The sugar rush didn't stopped there, Piper got to enjoy 3 different cakes. Like a true birthday girl she ate all three cakes.

I wanted to post the full Nick Knight photo shoot from Vogue UK in my Nick Knight post but thought I'd save it for today. Enjoy!

8.1.10

white chocolate bark.

It's my niece's birthday this week-end and I always like to try new recipes for sweet stuff. I am going to try and make some chocolate bark this week-end which is a made up recipe of mine. Depending on what mood I'm in I like to follow certain recipes but at other times I like make up my own. So I will see how my white chocolate coconut skor bits bark turns out. The picture above is not the recipe I'm making. I was scanning through recipes and this one looked good also! Happy Birthday Piper!

nick knight.

I recently got the new Nick Knight photography book for Christmas and I am so excited that I have this book full of Nick Knight's work in fashion and other projects. I discovered Nick Knight's work in the mid 90's when he did work for Bjork and Alexander McQueen. It wasn't until this photo of Devon Aoki styled in Alexander McQueen and styled similar to Bjork's Homogenic cover also shot by Nick. It has and been my favourite Nick Knight photograph ever since. It is coincidentally the cover of his book Nick Knight. I also missed the photo spread he did for Vogue UK for their 2008 December issue. Here are some of the work I missed.

I was going to do a year end roundup of fashions greatest moments of 09 but I thought I'd do the top influential models of 09 that I thought made an impact in fashion the past year. This list is in no way listed in any accurate way or in any particular order. It's a list compiled in what I thought who was pretty influential this year in my opinion. These girls represent the work they've done on the runway, editorials, ads and popularity. Hope you like.
